Anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's assassination.
Pam recently read the Team of Rivals (about Lincoln's cabinet), and was talking to me about it.
Lincoln surrounded himself with people who disagreed with him and one another, because of how able they were.
He also showed a remarkable sensitivity towards civil liberties (like in cases of Vallandingham, and Chicago Times) during the war.
George W. Bush compared himself to Lincoln at the dedication of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum in Springfield, IL on April 19th, 2005. Lincoln is Bush’s favorite president and he keeps a bust of him in the oval office, but I’m not sure that Bush has studied Lincoln’s methods very well.
"Every man is said to have his peculiar ambition. Whether it be true or not, I can say for one that I have no other so great as that of being truly esteemed of my fellow men, by rendering myself worthy of their esteem. How far I shall succeed in gratifying this ambition, is yet to be developed" - Abraham Lincoln
