Bandipur

I tried to photograph one of my oil paintings this morning, and was having all kinds of problems. It took a long time for the computer to download the pictures from the camera. When I used flash, it messed up the picture because of the canvas texture. When I didn't, things were fuzzy and blurred from my unsteady hand.

So I am posting some pictures from when we were in Bandipur National Park in India, in December 2006. The place has amazing wildlife. We went off-road in a jeep a few times, looking for tiger and leopard, but didn't find any. Strangely enough, we saw more wildlife by the forest roads than during those trips.

The gaur you see, was grazing at dawn. It didn't mind us clicking away. Didn't even look up. My great grandfather was killed by one.

The elephant was by the side of the road. He was agitated at first when we stopped and started taking pictures. A lone male elephant, you have to be very careful with. This guy turned towards us, then decided we were not worth the bother, and continued eating. Later, he slowly walked into the forest. Around a turn from where we met the elephant, we found a group of people on motorcycles, stopped. They had seen the elephant, and was waiting for him to pass.
